Hunza's position on the rain shadow side of the Karakoram gives it a semi-arid climate with distinct seasons. Spring (March–April) brings warming weather and almond blossoms; summer (May–September) is warm with cool nights; autumn (October–November) sees crisp days and golden light; winter (December–February) brings heavy snow to high passes. The Karakoram Highway is generally open March–November, though avalanches can briefly close the route. Travel in winter is possible but requires planning and experience.
